This brown and white one gallon stoneware jar was made by Bendigo Pottery for Sharpe Bros, brewers of non-alcoholic drinks such as Dandelion Ale, Sarsparilla Beer, Ginger Stout, Herbal Beer and Rasbeer. They were best known for their Ginger Beer. The drinks were delivered in their stoneware jars and stayed fresh as the brew continued to mature.

Sharpe Bros began in New Zealand although the family business had origins in Cumberland, England. They expanded to Australia early this century and were eventually taken over by Cadbury-Schweppes.

I just received one of these jars in June 2010. It was sent to me by a family in Victoria Australia whose mother passed away, and who had owned this jar. The jar serves as a fond reminder of the lady that owned of this jar, and because my surname is also SHARPE.
